Ultrasound Technician

Job Details:
Produces quality ultrasound examinations which are used in medical diagnosis and interpreted by radiologists to include:  abdominal, pelvic, OB/GYN, small parts and vascular ultrasound procedures
Position requires additional certifications to perform non-abdominal ultrasound procedures
Under the general direction of the Center Manager, performs ultrasonography at a technical level not requiring constant supervision of technical detail; performs a variety of technical procedures that require independent judgment, ingenuity, and initiative in applying prescribed techniques for diagnosis
Assumes responsibility for designated procedures; performs special assignments and projects
Works within the guidelines established by the corporate philosophy of the company

Performs diagnostic ultrasound procedures requiring sound understanding of anatomical position and physiology so that independent selection and modifications of technical factors produce optimum diagnostic results
Always demonstrates concern for patient’s comfort and both physical and psychological needs; consistently practicing good communication and human relations skills
Respects and maintains patient confidentiality
Explains procedures to the patients and assures patient comfort
Minimizes patient waiting time
Evaluates patient’s condition and is trained in basic emergency support measures
Reviews orders, instructions, and clinical indicators prior to each procedure, seeking clarifications, as needed. Documents clinical findings, as necessary
Provides patient safety by proper immobilization and supervision
Familiar with the principles of radiographic exposure including appropriate selection of all technical factors to produce a diagnostic quality radiograph
Understands the operation of x-ray equipment
Produces, processes and reviews images for optimum image quality as established by the radiologists
Consistently completes scans within the standard time allotted for the examination
Completes accurate documentation of patient information, examination and billing using the Radman system
Reports and documents equipment malfunction
Adheres to department operational policies/procedures, as well as radiation safety regulations/guidelines
Maintains equipment, examination room and work areas in clean, orderly and well-stocked conditions
Works closely with service technician in breakdown situation
Performs prescribed quality control procedures, as directed
Performs related duties and clerical duties, as directed
Performs delegated assignments within the department, as directed
May be delegated specific areas of responsibility in performance of routine procedures
Participates in basic educational programs within the department of company
Maintains technical knowledge at appropriate level through ongoing education
Maintains a current American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (A.R.D.M.S.) license and Continuing Education Credits (CE’s) as required by the A.R.D.M.S.
Cross-trains in other modalities, as directed
Assists in basic technologist training within the department
Must be able to work scheduled hours
Assists others in the company as directed, promoting cooperation and team approach

Qualifications include:
 
Completion of formal ultrasound technology training which meets requirements for certification with the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) Two to three years of experience using ultrasound  in OB/GYN, abdomen, pelvis, small parts and vascular technology American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) Certified or certified eligible
