Job Details:
Position Summary
Produces quality ultrasound examinations which are used in medical diagnosis and interpreted by radiologists to include:  abdominal, pelvic, OB/GYN, small parts and interventional ultrasound procedures.
Primary Duties
Performs billing and charging with hospital computer systems.
Follows proper protocol and associated paperwork for servicing malfunctioning equipment.
Inputs charges in computer system. Obtains patient history for each examination from patient and/or chart. Documents examination information completely and accurately to appropriate medical personnel by using examination worksheets, written preliminary reports when needed and/or verbal notification
Utilizes periodic QC and preventative maintenance and proficiency in proper patient positioning to achieve best examination results. Explains the ultrasound process to each patient prior to the examination.
Verifies proper patient identification using patient armband.
Uses hospital equipment i.e. phones, faxes, copiers, hospital information systems. Ensures proper protocol for filing and copying ultrasound examinations.
Assist radiology front office / reception work as time permits.
Completes work within acceptable time frames; be able to modify procedures according to departmental policy when problems related to patient’s age occur.
Participates in hospital training programs.
Performs daily stock checks for supplies, films, stickers, etc. and weekly check for and replacement of expired supplies.
Uses policy and procedure manual and other reference material to ensure proper course of action.
Consults supervisor for additional assignments or independently seeks tasks needed to be done. Attends departmental meetings, signs minutes of staff meetings when unable to attend.
Utilizes personal protective equipment to protect from exposure to chemical, radiation and infectious hazards.
Adjusts personal schedule in case of workload fluctuations or other departmental needs.
Position is required to work on-call (stand-by) shifts and return to work as outlined in the department policy.
Special Skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills necessary to understand oral and written instructions stated in radiological and medical terms and to exchange information with patients and staff. Proficient with general operating procedures, i.e. start up procedures, calibration of equipment, troubleshooting and problem solving
Supervises
Functional supervision may be exercised over cross-training technologists and/or students.

Postition Qualifications:
Completion of formal ultrasound technology training which meets requirements for certification with the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers.
One to two years of hospital experience using ultrasound and vascular technology under the direction of an appropriate specialty physician is necessary. 
Three years hospital experience.
American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) Certified. CPR required.
